A SPO went missing along with an AK-47 rifle of his colleague and some magazines from Shopian district of South Kashmir, even as a soldier was killed in a mine blast in Kupwara. Sources said SPO Showkat Ahmad Sheikh, posted at Shopian police station, had in all likelihood joined militant ranks. Shopian SSP Sandeep Chaudhry said facts were being ascertained. In neighbouring Pulwama district, at least three hideouts were busted by security forces in Rajpora, Khallen and Tahab villages and a militant OGW detained. “AK-47 magazines, IED material and other incriminating stuff were recovered,” a police official said. In a separate incident, a soldier was killed in a mine blast along the LoC in north Kashmir’s frontier Kupwara district. The blast took place when an Army team was on routine patrol in Keran sector.
