A police officer embraced martyrdom and three others were wounded Monday night during an operation carried out against terrorists in the provincial capital’s Hayatabad area.
According to Shaukat Yousafzai, the minister for information for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), one terrorist was also shot dead during the overnight operation. He added that authorities had intelligence about the presence of six terrorists — who had earlier attacked a judge and additional inspector-general of police — in a house in the locality.
Yousafzai mentioned that the ground floor of the house had been cleared but that there was further information on terrorists’ presence in the basement. Security personnel and police officers were strategically moving forward, he added.
The minister added that there was persistent gunfire from the terrorists inside as the hours-long operation continued.
