In a significant victory, India got elected as Member of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), the principal global body focussed on gender equality and women empowerment, beating China in a hotly-contested election. The elections were held for two seats in the Asia-Pacific States category won by India (38 votes) and Afghanistan (39 votes). China got only 27 votes.
